Charity commitment

What we do

We’re passionate about the communities in which we live and work, and have a great history of supporting local and national charities.

In 2021 we developed formal partnerships with two charities chosen by our colleagues – FareShare and the Armed Forces Covenant. Through these focused partnerships we hope to develop mutually beneficial relationships where we can learn from each other, positively impact our communities and move forward with our ESG goals. There is more information on our Partner charities below;

  • In 2021 we were delighted to announce our charitable partnership with FareShare, the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste.

    FareShare redistributes good quality surplus food from the food industry. They redistribute good quality surplus food from the food industry and send it to nearly 10,000 charities and community groups including homeless hostels, children’s breakfast clubs, domestic violence refuges and community cafes.

    They provided food sufficient for nearly 37 million meals in 2021 which were needed by some of the most vulnerable people in our society. They also reported a 59% increase year on year in the number of people who had access to their food and an increase of 44% year on year in the number of charity and community groups they supported. Our support and this challenge will help them achieve even more.

    Esken Renewable selected FareShare as its charity partner following consultation with people from across its operations. The choice of FareShare reflects our proud track record of colleagues supporting foodbanks and Stobart Energy’s desire to do more to help food poverty in the UK.

    National Three Peaks Challenge

    The National Three Peaks challenge was completed in September 2021! A fantastic effort by the Esken Renewables teams for their tremendous effort, determination and training.

    It was a great challenge to complete and allowed us to raise £5,847 – in excess of our target to £2,000.

  • We are proud to say we have been members of the Armed Forces Covenant (Bronze) since 2020, gaining our silver status later the same year and looking to ‘go for Gold’ in 2022.

    As a business we are proud of our military connections with employees from the British Army, Royal Airforce, and the Royal Navy amongst our ranks.  We work proactively to encourage ex-service personal to join our business by ensuring we work with the Career Transition Partnership and by developing our relationships with local Reservist Units.

    Where possible we look to work in partnership with recruitment agencies who share our ethos and are also Armed Forces Covenant accredited. We actively encourage the development of internal communications within our Forces community across our business, using technologies such as Yammer via our Forces Yammer Group too support employees to make connections and share experiences in their daily lives.

    We also continually strive to look for new ways to continue to develop our connections and support in this area and suggestions and improvements are always welcome.
